Healthy Living may be characterized as a positive approach to life and living. It is both qualitative and quantitative in nature by enabling one to do those things that enrich one’s well-being and quality of life as well as enabling one to enjoy their quality of life for as long as possible.
RPAY’s contribution to healthy living falls within the area of active living, healthy eating, and stress reduction. We have launched our Healthy living campaign ‘Today for you I care for me’ offering an array of healthy living opportunities.
Physical activity is part of a healthy lifestyle and research has shown that it can reduce stress, strengthen the heart and lungs, increase energy levels, and help maintain and achieve a healthy body weight. An active lifestyle includes participating in physical activities that are enjoyable, require some effort, and promote health. Examples of active living include taking the stairs instead of the elevator, going for a walk at lunch, biking to work, and participating in enjoyable sport or fitness programs. Current recommendations from Canada's Physical activity guide indicate that one should aim for 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week. This can be done all at once, or in smaller increments through out the day.
Good nutrition plays an important role in promoting health and wellness as well as
reducing the risks of heart disease, different types of cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and other conditions. Canada's foood guide recommends enjoying a variety of different foods emphazing vegetables, fruit, whole grain product along with low fat dairy products, lean meat, poultry, fish and legumes.
Stress is a fact of life, and many of us have experienced it and even suffered from it from time to time. Managing your stress level can be benefical to physical and mental health. Learning simple stress management and coping skills can make a positive difference in your overall wellbeing. Exploring your stress triggers and learning more about your stress signs and symptoms have proven to be helpful in identifying when you are feeling stressed. Some creative coping strategies could involve progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, autogenics, active living and better time management.
